{"id":50222,"date":"2019-10-07T14:50:50","date_gmt":"2019-10-07T14:50:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ascert.biz\/?p=50222"},"modified":"2021-03-06T11:04:51","modified_gmt":"2021-03-06T11:04:51","slug":"16-ascert-receives-recognition-from-living-works","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/devserva.inicodigital.com\/maina\/16-ascert-receives-recognition-from-living-works\/","title":{"rendered":"16 ASCERT Receives Recognition from Living Works"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\n\nASCERT have been recognised by Alison Armstrong and Living Works for their contribution towards creating a suicide safer community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/devserva.inicodigital.com\/maina\/uploads\/news-events\/social_media.JPG\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Northern Ireland has the highest suicide rate within the United Kingdom and the third highest suicide rate in Europe. ASCERT alongside their work to offer support relating to alcohol and\/or drug misuse, have been delivering a suite of programmes to prevent suicide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Receiving the award, Gary McMichael, ASCERT\u2019s Chief Executive said:&nbsp;<em><strong>\u201cDrugs and alcohol is ASCERT\u2019s business, but suicide is everyone\u2019s.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Alison Armstrong, Prevention Services Manager with ASCERT, wanted to see the charity\u2019s efforts recognised for the following reasons:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Firstly their commitment and passion for suicide prevention by setting up a suicide prevention sub-group which has developed a 2 year suicide prevention strategy for the organisation.&nbsp;<\/li><li>ASCERT has also trained over 100 staff and volunteers within their own organisation in either Safe Talk and\/or ASIST and are committed to ongoing continuous professional develop for staff and have supported their trainers to attend the ASIST Trainers Conference in Newfoundland on several occasions.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ASCERT have nominated 4 \u2018Protect Life Champions\u2019 who have been established in each of their 4 offices throughout Northern Ireland. They meet regularly and carry out actions arising from the organisation\u2019s suicide prevention strategy and are there to provide quick and accessible support to their colleagues either before during or after an intervention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ASCERT has also established an employment assistance programme for its entire staff and recognises good working conditions as being essential to good mental health. ASCERT\u2019s Chief Executive also gives staff additional leave on World Mental Health Day (10th October), in recognition of the importance of their own mental health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Congratulating ASCERT on the award, Kelly Gilliland, Senior Health Improvement Officer with the Public Health Agency in Northern Ireland said:&nbsp;<strong><em>\u201cAs one of the leading charitable organisations working on both drugs and alcohol and suicide prevention, I am delighted that ASCERT\u2019s work in this field has been recognised by Living Works.&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u201cThanks to ASCERT a wide range of people have been trained from across Northern Ireland as they have provided Northern Ireland with 3 ASIST T4T\u2019s training 54 new trainers and a Safe Talk T4T thereby increasing capacity to provide support to those in despair and distress at both a community and organisational level.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Alison Armstrong said:&nbsp;<em><strong>\u201cASCERT have also delivered to over 1,500 people in our community in suicide prevention skills by providing ASIST workshops. I am proud of the work that ASCERT has done around suicide prevention, I feel they have raised the bar to a gold standard and I am delighted to be part of it.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ASCERT have been recognised by Alison Armstrong and Living Works for their contribution towards creating a suicide safer community.
